Savoring Summer

There is only two more weeks until school starts...I know, it's unbelievable!  So around here, we're all about savoring the last days of summer, friends, pool and playing (and still learning multiplication tables!)

House projects are slow, but that's how it should be and how it's going to be in these next two weeks.

I have had some minor progress, though, with a few days to myself on weekend:

This shelf was an unfinished wood product from a local store.  I stained it, and have used it for many years.  It just wasn't working any longer in its upright position.  I played around with cutting in it half, and just couldn't do it.
So I turned it on its side.  So far, trim has come off and been replaced, shelves are being retrofitted from horizontal to vertical, and primer is being applied.  Now to teach myself how to make movable shelving, which may take awhile (into September for sure!)

To work on this, I need a few pieces of trim from Lowe's and spent $18 there, which should be the total cost for this retrofit if all goes well.  I topped off the morning with a trip to my second favorite place to wander around: the fabric stores.

Of the samples picked, I had one favorite in the store.  Once they were tacked to my wall, my favorite changed.  Want to venture a guess??

It's a touch choice, but I think the same one keeps jumping out at me. I also couldn't pass up a piece of beautiful off-white remnant (6 yards for $3 a yard!) that is now draped over the curtain rods in the dining room. I have no idea when that project will start, but the fabric was beautiful and just a deal that couldn't be passed up! So for now: Summer. And dreaming and planning in the meantime.
