Quilt-tastic! Quilt Repair time....

This is the quilt my sister made for our wedding, and after many, many (many) moons, I'm having to do my first minor repair to it....
....which just made me spread it out and enjoy the beauty of it.

The pattern is the "double wedding ring", and each piece of fabric is very special.  My sister sent out a request to many friends and family (and this back in the days of snail mail!), and was sent fabric from so many of our loved ones....
....my college friend Janet who loved to clown....
......a piece from a dress my mom made me.....

....a sample of a pair of sorts (known as 'jams' back in the day!).....

....from Brad's grandparents, where he spent summers up in the woods seeing so many deer.

And the "intersection of the rings is done in our college colors, where our lives intersected those many moons ago.

It's a beautiful quilt, a beautiful memory, and very comfy!

We have a scrapbook that goes along with the quilt that reminds us which fabrics are from whom, but I was surprised that I can name so many of them.

I had to make a minor repair (and after all these years, that's saying a lot!).  There was one place where the stitching had come loose; I had to pull back from old years of embroidery and used a modified buttonhole stitch to tack it down.

My quilt is back to new, and just in time for a significant anniversary!

It's a great gift....memories....useful....reminding us of so many loved ones, and many hours of hard labor on my sister's part.  I have made one small quilt in my lifetime, and it was enough for a lifetime.  This represents more patience than I've ever had.
What is your favorite wedding gift?  Has it survived "all these years"

Better yet: What was the worse one, the one you couldn't wait to get rid of?  (and we'll keep it just between us, ok?)
