"Mom stays in the picture"

Check out this article this post by Allison Tate today at Huffington Post. It's a great article on how as moms, we are happy to stand behind the camera and take all the pictures.

We aren't dressed, our hair isn't fixed, we have spitup on our clothes....the list goes on and on. So we stay behind the camera. When I finished my son's first year scrapbook (he was about four at the time), we turned the last page and my husband said "Did this child have a Mother?" In all the pictures, I think there was one of me, probably on the day he was born. I was always behind the camera. I do enjoy taking pictures, a lot.

But I also do not like pictures of myself, and I never have. That first year of baby weight, hormones, no showers and no cute clothes don't help, and I was happy to be out of the picture.

But what does our child see? They see us as mom....and that's what they will want to see in pictures. The smiles, the arms around them, the bad-hair-and-no-cute-clothes in years mom. That's the person they know, and that's the person they will want to see in their scrapbooks.

So we did it...just now. In jammies. No makeup, ready for bed, not cute and not fit for the front of the camera. But this one is a keeper.  I think I'll frame it.
