We were listening to the radio in the car the week before Christmas. A local kitchen suppy store was saying how all (many? lotsa?) wives would just love new cooking and baking supplies from their store (and a very nice store it is, I have to say!). I laughed and said to dear husband that he was probably one of few husbands that need to shop at Lowe's instead of the baking store. Now, I love to bake, but have all I need in a few good cookie sheets and a nice cake pan, so I'm good. But I do love a good kitchen gadget, so it's not out of the realm. He said he was really, really hurt because he had already done all the shopping for my gifts and that's the store he had shopped....so I was going to be really disappointed on Christmas Day.
So.....the first gift I opened was:
Yes. OXO kitchen supplies. Now, I really like OXO kitchen gadgets, but this was a bit of a strange purchase coming from him. Hmmm. But I was gracious, I mean it was a nice gift. And one I know I will use and be very happy with!
The next package I opened was this:
Awesome! I've always wanted a Dremel; I don't know why, and I'm not sure what to do with it yet, but I think it's a handy little thing to have around. I'll keep you posted as I learn about it and see what cool projects it helps with!
Then this one: This had baffled me. Apart from wanted a Tetris Wii game, I hadn't asked for anything. And this was big. And really heavy. I had no clue. But was very happy to find this:
Woo hoo! I have to admit: I've been a bit less than careful when cutting wood, especially long pieces (like the 16 feet long pieces for the dining room buffet). I hadn't looked at anything like this, didn't know it existed in a small and portable model, so this was a great surprise. I can't wait to try it out!
It's always nice to know you are known by your family and they "get" you, even if you are a little different. I've never asked for much (none of us have "lists" or huge material wants), but getting something that shows your family knows you really adds to the warmth. Yes, even to the workbench type metal kind of warmth. Can't you just feel the love??
Speaking of love, check out my post on Carter Chatter to see what I'm in love with this first day of the new year.
So, did you get any great gifts? Any horrible ones? (Those always make the better stories!)
We're spending a few days with family before the start of the new year. There is lots in store for me: New projects to complete, new projects to conjur up, new ventures to contemplate which includes learning a new skill.
I can't wait to see what the new year holds; how about you?
Happy New Year from A Mom with Nails!
