Anyway....
Back to my 2 things that happened concurrently today: I got my cholesterol report within minutes of a message from my niece inviting my husband to run a half marathon with her and my brother. In Florida. In March. While it's still winter here.
So husband decides I should do this race with them. (In Florida, March, not winter there). He really believes in me, and that I can do this. I really believe there is no chance I can make it. That's 13 miles, if you didn't know, plus one extra tenth just in case you needed a bit more after the 13 miles.
I'm not a runner. I did try once, for a good cause. I trained for and finished a 4 mile race two years in a row, but never managed to run the whole way. But finishing was a great feeling, I have to admit.
But this 13 point one mile thing is a totally different animal with spots. I googled training schedules and they all started with a 4 mile run! Started! HA!
OK, so I have 2 months to get to the start of what is the start of the training program for a half marathon. So can I go to Florida. March. (not winter.)
So my running partner and I went out for a walk/run. I completed 2.55 miles** in 55 minutes (I know, that's horrible, but includes enormous hills and a stop to buy chocolate with the local girl scout who was selling chocolate covered raisins: it could have been worse, right?) But I figure Florida is flat, not like the lovely (torturous) rolling hills in the piedmont of Virginia, so that should help.

At least my running partner is sweet enough to pretend to be more tired than I am, even though she can outrun me the entire way.
So, we'll see where this goes. Am I serious about this? I don't know....I'm not sure at all. But my cholesterol and all says I need to do something, so why not start. And dream of warmer weather in March.
